WELCOME TO MAPLERIDGE COOPERATIVE PRESCHOOL
Registration for the 2019-2020 school year is currently ongoing. We would love to show you our classroom and tell you about everything our Cooperative Preschool has to offer!
Mapleridge Cooperative Preschool is a, non-denominational, co-operative school that encourages parents to take part in their child's learning experience. Parents or caregivers are required to volunteer in the classroom approximately seven times a year. This allows parents a chance to see their child in school, get to know the teacher and students and become familiar with the school and school activities. Our 3 and 4-year-old programs' allow children to develop and grow in a caring and nurturing environment. Our class programs include:
Structured and child-led activities
A variety of play areas changed periodically through the year
Circle time including songs, poems, stories and fingerplays
Daily craft time
Fantastic field trips
Year end family picnic
WHAT MAKES MAPLE RIDGE PRESCHOOL SO SPECIAL...
MUSIC with Miss MacAuley
Each month, we look forward to our music specialist, Miss MacAuley, visiting our classroom. Miss MacAuley, a music therapist, brings a variety of instruments and props for the children to explore and always has her guitar and beautiful singing voice ready.
Snack time! A nutritious and delicious snack is a great way to keep our minds and bodies fueled for learning! It’s also a wonderful time to sit and visit with classmates. At MCP snack time is unique! We have a shared snack in which all classmates contribute one item to the snack basket. This might be an apple or banana, a small bag of crackers or a serving of cubed cheese. Our parent helper divides all of the snack items onto plates for the children to enjoy at snack time. This means that each and every snack time offers a variety of healthy choices and often includes new foods to try!
SMALL CLASS SIZES
Our 4 year old program is limited to 14 children with one teacher and one parent helper and our 3 year old program is limited to 12 children with one teacher and one parent helper. Our low adult to child ratio results in lots of individualized attention as well as a calm and engaging classroom environment.
Fantastic Field Trips
Field trips are a wonderful way to link the learning happening in our classroom to hands-on educational experiences in the community. They are also a great time for the children and families of the preschool to connect, visit, play and learn together. We typically enjoy two field trips per year; one in the Fall to the Corn Maze or Kayben Farms as well as one in the Spring to the Science centre, Inglewood Bird Sanctuary or Bow Habitat Station Fish Hatchery.
Throughout the school year, we explore a great variety of topics which guide our learning activities. Through a balance of teacher-directed and child-directed activities as well as teacher-selected and emergent curriculum, our students benefit from a well-rounded early education program. Regular changes to our classroom’s centers and activities make our classroom an exciting and dynamic place to play and learn.
From visits from Mad Science (2-3 times per year) to other amazing and interesting visitors to our classroom such as librarians, police officers, dental hygienists and fire fighters, our program offers an incredible array of educational opportunities for our students. We believe Mapleridge Cooperative Preschool to be an exemplary early learning program!
